Chop, or James to his mum, discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2016 at the prime age of 41, training under Brian Livie at Alton Jiu Jitsu before moving to Shropshire and joining OJJA in 2021.

Chop coaches the fundamentals classes, helping new students learn the basics, build confidence and start developing their own game.

He believes good coaching is about more than demonstrating techniques; it's about creating a welcoming environment where people can learn at their own pace, ask questions and enjoy the journey, regardless of age, experience or ability.

Still a student himself, Chop is fairly certain that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has many more lessons in store. His aim is to help others discover the same enjoyment, challenge and sense of community that have kept him coming back to the mats.
